KDUL Shield – Clane Utd v Rathangan, 24/2/24

Full Time: Clane Utd 5 Rathangan 0

Competition: U12 Shield

Venue: Doctors Road, Clane Co.Kildare

On the back of a 4-1 home defeat to Naas in the league, the U12 Prem team faced Rathangan (M) in the next round of the KDUL Shield. After a patient start, Clane finally broke the deadlock with a Paul Colbert strike. This spurred the team on and with some slick interchanging play across the mid, opened up the opportunity for striker Caolan Connolly to slot home a 2nd. Playing out of his normal position of striker, Rowan Connolly played a storming game at right back. 1 more goal pre half time from Bobby Coonan, saw the team go in at the break 3-0. Heroic efforts from Scott Johnston in goal kept the scoreline in our favour.

Some planned changes in personnel/ formation in the 2nd half, helped shore up the defensive line and allowed the midfield to dominate against a resilient Rathangan side, this allowed Paul Colbert to get on the scoresheet twice more with 2 very well taken strikes – completing his Hattrick and a resounding 5-0 home win for Clane Utd. Great teamwork along with controlled play and aggression delivered a great result. We move onto the next round with a quiet confidence.

SCORERS

Today the mighty Clane utd major
Welcomed Kulcullen to Doctor’s Road for the cup match.
Clane utd had been playing well but results just haven’t gone there way, so this was a big task for the lads.
Clane went with a defensive look to the first half with a 2 /3/3 formation with all 3 midfielders playing a defensive role. As the game kicked off you could see Kilcullen wanted to get an early goal ,but both Sean and Talen stood tall, and  very little got passed them.
As the first have went on Kilcullen had the better of the chances but Paddy (goal keeper) was having a great game and pulled off some great saves. After 20 minutes Clane started to get some decent possession, and started to to put Kilcullen under a bit of pressure, but didn’t look like we would score.
After 30 mins Kilcullen scored.A great move down the left wing and a lovely pass split the clane defense and they scored 1/0 kilcullen. Clane restarted and Ronan had a shot but straight at their Keeper. Clane continued to attack until end of the first half.
2nd half Clane started the better and played some lovely Football at times.Darragh B had started to get involved and was starting to control the midfield. Both Ben and Ronan got more involved and the chances started to come . It was at this point that clane had a corner, which lead to Kilcullen break away and running straight passed our defense to score again 2/0 kilcullen.
Time for a tactical change moved Roan up front Ben and Ronan. Took Darragh m off and introduced Sean. And went with a 3/2/3 with the midfield of Sam and Darragh more attacking role.  From a kick out Paddy passed to Sam who passed a gem of a ball to Ben who passed a lovely through ball to Roan who slotted the ball passed the keeper 1 back for Clane. From that moment on Clane were all over Kilcullen and had a number of chances to equalize with Ronan and Ben having a few decent chances. With only 5 mins left Clane broke down the right hand side with both Darragh and Sam playing major roles in the last few minutes. Sam passes to Ronan who finished with a lovely shot from edge of the box and in 2/2! Final score. Wow lads you where all amazing and gave it all for your team.
Unfortunately for us match went to penalties and Kilcullen won

U12 Major Clane United vs Arlington – Match Report 09/12/17

U12M2017

Full Time: Clane Utd 2 Arlington 2

Competition: U12 Major Division

Venue: Doctors Road, Clane Co.Kildare

It was 7th vs 9th today Clane have drawn their last 4 matches and Arlington had lost their last 4 .

Match kick off and straight away we could see that Clane were going to be slow starters even though it was a 14:30 kick off. Arlington’s first attack and Clane’s defence was not to been seen and Paddy our goalkeeper came out to close down the Arlington attack and they chipped the ball over him and into the goal. 1-0 Arlington after 2 mins.

Clane restart and went straight up on the attack and Ben had a shot saved by their Keeper who kicked the ball straight back down to their attack and scored again 2- 0 Arlington 5 mins into the match.
Where most teams heads would go down after such a start Not Clane United we started playing football and had a number of chances to score but kept getting caught offside.

Second half was a different story Clane were all over Arlington and it was the Arlington keeper who was keeping Clane from Scoring!
10 mins into the second half Paddy kicked the ball out to Roan who looked up and saw Darragh M’ free and passed a lovely ball to him. Darragh M ran about 20 yards and passed to Darragh B’ and he took a shot low into the bottom right corner and in 1-2.
Chance after chance for Clane until Darragh M scored a bullet with 10 mins to go. 2-2. Clane continued to attack and where very unlucky not to get the winner.
Clane United Major under 12s gave their all and played really well and they are going to be a tough team to beat.

U12 Clane United Premier Team – Match Report (28th Oct 2017)

Full Time: Sallins Celtic 2 Clane United 4

Competition:     SFAI Under 12 Skechers Cup (Round of last 16)

Venue:                 Away – Sallins Celtic

Clane United rises to the occasion to beat Sallins Celtic in last 16 fixture of the SFAI Under 12 Skechers Cup.

Even without Shane Henry, Clane United held the upper hand for much of this last 16 Cup fixture. Even though Clane United won the contest, they fell behind to a 3rd minute goal which our goal keeper Eddie O’Loughlin could do nothing to prevent. The lads had to dig deep to find their rhythm in this damp early morning kick off and after a tense first 10 minutes, this is just what happened.

Clane United made better use of the ball all over the pitch throughout the first half, in fact, our midfield four created many good openings. It wasn’t long before an accurate midfield pass found Adam Melia on the right of midfield, who confidently struck the ball to the back of the net from 20 yards. Minutes later another accurate midfield pass through the center found Adam Fitzpatrick who found the back of the net. Adam’s excellent right footed half volley gave the Sallins Celtic keeper no hope of stopping. Clane United continued to create chances for the remainder of the half, but did not extend their lead further before half time. Clane United worked hard to recover the early conceded goal to go in at half time 2 -1 up.

Clane United applied more pressure in the second half and succeeded in keeping Sallins Celtic pinned back for a while, with the end result of another goal for Clane United from Adam Melia to bring the score line to 3 – 1. Clane sent on Alex Mooney, Adam Kennedy & Jamie Gartland to ensure Clane kept the midfield control. This was soon rewarded when Daire O’Beirne scored from in a brilliant back post header from an excellent Clane United corner.

With the game at 4 -1, the tie looked over with 15 minutes to go. Plenty of credit must go to Sallins who did not throw in the towel and scored again before the end of the game to bring the final score to 4 -2.

This was a great team performance from Clane United and the full squad was needed to deliver this cup victory. I couple of key players to mention for excellent effort are Rian O’Neill, Tadgh O’Donoghue & Eddie O’Loughlin.

The team marches onto the last 8 of South Leinster in the Cup where an encounter with either Mullingar or Birr awaits. Should be a cracking fixture.
